Concrete - Tough Enough For The Job

You’re tough as nails. Always have been. Always will be. So when you’re looking for a building or remodeling material to match your strengths, stick with concrete. It’s the most commonly used man-made material in the world. If you don’t already know, concrete is a construction material composed of cement and other materials such as fly ash, slag cement and coarse gravel and crushed rocks (think limestone, sand and granite), water and chemical admixtures.

Concrete solidifies and hardens in its place after being mixed with water, due to a chemical process known as hydration. The water reacts with the cement, which bonds to other components, and eventually (hardening time depends on thickness of the concrete) a stone-like material is created. Here’s a fun fact: the concrete inside the Hoover Dam is still curing or hardening. It’s expected to take more than 125 years to finish!

The truth of the matter is, concrete is an extremely versatile material. In the same sense that it’s used for your home’s foundation, so too are these concrete mixes, concrete products and concrete molds used for a variety of other household and commercial items.
